WOOL PELLETS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Our wool pellets are 100% raw unwashed sheeps wool. They may also contain trace amounts of sheep manure and vegetable matter like straw, hay and other grasses. We do not use any filler or additives in our pellets.

  • We have a custom pellet machine that uses heat and force to rip up the wool and compress it into the pellets.

  • You can directly apply wool when planting seeds - space your seeds out in your row and then sprinkle the wool pellets alongside your seeds. Cover up seeds and wool with soil. 1kg of pellets can be applied to approximately 20-25 square feet of garden.

Pre mix for pots – mix 1/2 cup pellets with 4 litres of soil and add to your pots.

Plants that are already potted - sprinkle the wool pellets on the top of the plants and push them down. Or leave them on top for pest repellent (they will not break down as quickly on top of the soil).

  • 1kg of pellets can be applied to approximately 20-25 square feet of garden.

  • When pellets are mixed with the soil they will start breaking down within 3 months. When used as a mulch it will take closer to 12 months to start breaking down. The nutrients in the pellets will release gradually and can last up to a year.

  • Definitely NOT. The heat used during the process of pelleting will destroy any seeds in the wool.

  • We purchase wool from sheep farmers in Manitoba and we use the skirted wool (dirty wool) from our own wool mill. This has helped us achieve our zero-waste goals on our farm. We believe that wool is undervalued in Canada and by paying farmers above market value for their wool we can create a wonderful product and begin adding value to the industry in Canada.

  • We ship our pellets anywhere in Canada using pre-paid flat rate boxes. We can ship up to 4kg in one box ($29) and 1kg will ship for around $20. To purchase pellets check it out here.

  • We believe that pelleting is a great option for all regions across the country and we’ve developed an online course for how to get started with your own pelleting operation - you can find that course here.
