  • Sheep tour - learn all about sheep and regenerative agriculture

  • Wool mill tour - learn how we transform wool into yarn into clothes

  • Indigo dyeing activity

Enjoy a day on the farm learning about sheep and wool. Connect to the source of your clothing and material. Cozy campfire and picnic tables - Please bring your own food, we do not have food for sale.

Event is rain or shine, so please dress accordingly. There will be canopy tents for shade and shelter.

If you wish to do the hands-on dye activity, please bring a t-shirt, bandanna, wool yarn, or other natural fibre (cotton, linen, hemp, wool, alpaca only) to dip in an indigo vat - 1 item per person.

We will have some bandanas and tea towels available for purchase if you forget your item.

IMPORTANT DETAILS

  • Event is rain or shine, so please dress accordingly. There will be canopy tents for shade and shelter.

  • If you wish to do the hands-on dye activity, please bring a t-shirt, bandanna, wool yarn, or other natural fibre (cotton, linen, hemp, wool, alpaca only) to dip in an indigo vat - 1 item per person.

  • This is an outdoor event. There will be canopy tents to keep out the rain or sunshine, but there are no indoor facilities.

  • We recommend footwear appropriate to the weather (rain boots if its rainy or running shoes).

  • Please bring a water bottle and your own lunch.

  • There is an outhouse on site.

  • The on-farm store will be open to purchase items (yarn, roving, pillows, dye kits etc) We can accept cash, credit or debit

  • We cannot accommodate other pets on the farm, please do not bring your dog!

  • Here is what can be expected re accessibility at Long Way Homestead. The driveway, walkways, dye studio and outdoor workshops spaces are a mix of grass and gravel with some bumpy terrain and accessible by wheelchair. The outhouse, indoor studio space and wool mill all have one step access and not wheelchair accessible. They are working to build wheelchair accessibility into the entire farm, mill and field school.

  • The open farm day includes:

    Enjoy a day on the farm learning about sheep and wool. Connect to the source of your clothing and material. Cozy campfire and picnic tables.

  • We encourage people to park on the side of the 41 Rd near our driveway. It is a short 250m walk to the farm.

  • There is an outdoor washroom/outhouse with hand sanitizer for hand washing.

  • Please leave your pets at home, we love them, but it isn't safe for them or our animals.

  • The farm has limited accessibility, grass and gravel paths into the fields, and a small step into the mill and washroom is not wheelchair accessible yet.

    If there is still lots of snow or mud, the farm would be less accessible for mobility aids like wheelchairs and walkers. We do plow the paths.

    Thank you for your patience as we work towards greater farm accessibility.

  • Yes! We will have our farm store open with yarn, fibre, wool bedding, wool pellets and craft kits!

  • Dress for the weather - it might be wet or snowy (or maybe even muddy). We recommend layers and good footwear.

    We have limited indoor space, but we will have a campfire going to warm up!

  • We encourage you to bring your own food or lunch as - we have picnic tables onsite.

    We have garbage cans and recycling. Please be mindful of others that may have allergies when packing your lunch and eating food on-site.

Where to Find Us

The farm is about 40 minutes east of Winnipeg off the number 1 highway. The best option is to use google maps (rather than the street address)

Head east on the trans Canada highway from Winnipeg. After passing the “Centre of Canada” signs watch for highway 501 or Rosewood Dr. Turn left onto highway 501. Follow this highway (continue straight through the intersection with the #12 highway). About 8 km past the #12 You will see a gas station on your right hand side called Ste. G’s - turn left on that road MUN 41 E. The farm is the second driveway on the right #51077 there will be signage at the entrance.
