The "SponsorSHEEP" program is an opportunity for us to directly engage and connect with the broader fibre community to create a greater understanding of the process involved in raising sheep, growing and producing wool.
Not every fibre enthusiast has the opportunity (or proximity) to own or visit a sheep farm, so this program is an attempt to bring that fibre-farm experience to you!
The SponsorSHEEP program will begin in spring of 2017 and will occur every spring (during lambing season). Each sponsorsheep lasts for one full year, you can choose to renew for a second year if you want. There are many levels of sponsorship that you can choose, but there will be limited actual sheep to sponsor (this really depends on lambing each year).
Every sponsorsheep includes the basics:
* sheep naming rights
* Post card mailed to you with a picture of the sheep and basic info (name, DOB, breed etc)
* Monthly updates via email including pictures.
For those that have the opportunity to visit the farm, you can schedule visits with your sheep, attend the shearing day, and hands-on learning at the farm. All yarn and fleeces will be shipped shortly after shearing and processing in the following spring!
Levels of sponsorSHEEP (per year):
$100 - 2 skeins of worsted weight yarn from your sheep. (Skeins are 200 yds), plus the basics
$250 - 8 skeins of worsted weight yarn from your sheep. (Skeins are 200 yds). Plus a 5x7 printed picture of your sheep. (skeins are 200 yds), plus the basics
$400 - The full fleece from your sheep - the fleece will come washed (unless you choose it raw). Plus a 2018 sheep calendar, plus the basics. (Great option for a local yarn store or knitting group)
$500 - The full fleece from your sheep processed into roving or yarn (weight can be chosen). Plus a 2018 sheep calendar, plus the basics. (Great option for a local yarn store or knitting group).
Once we know how many lambs will be available for the sponsorSHEEP program we will announce the 'drop date' and time. We will announce it on Instagram, facebook and through our newsletter. Watch for those details and then on that date choose your sheep.
What does the SponsorSHEEP support pay for?
Sheep eat about 4lbs of hay a day from November until May, the program purchases hay, and also contributes towards veterinarian costs and wool processing fees.
NOTE: As we have learned the painful way, livestock does not always survive, even with the best of care. We cannot guarantee that your sheep will survive the entire year of sponsorsheep. In the event of death, we will continue to send updates and pictures of the 'flock' and will fulfill the yarn or fleece from another sheep at the end of the year.
